Andersen has a chart for identifying which balancer to order.

We recommend that you replace both balancers along with the window side jamb liners. Find your balancer by selecting your window sash visible glass width and height in the grid below. A balancer or window counter balance maintains the position of your window sash. Used with 2056 even 2452 2842 2846 30310 3432 and 38210 units with non tempered glass.

Each window has two balancers i recommend replacing both even if only one is broken. You need to know the visible glass size width and height of the lower sash to identify the balancer number. Sash balancers are metal boxes that contain a nylon cord under tension. Unlike most other window manufacturers andersen typically uses a unique type of counterbalance commonly referred to as an andersen sash balance.

Size 837 can be used to replace 823 827 and 831. All my windows use the 939 narroline. The andersen 200 series perma shield narroline window balancer is located above the upper sash head jamb liner. If you have andersen double hung narroline windows that were manufactured between 1968 and 2012 that will not open or stay open then the sash balances may be broken and need to be replaced.
